The photo shoot is our favorite time of the year! We usually shoot during the months of May and early June. Here is what went down on our first day of shooting….
On Day 1 we shot our “Black or White” and “Lyrical” sections in the studio and later went out on location to shoot the “Painted Desert” collection:
The Painted Desert was by far one of the most difficult shoots we have done to date. The models got ready at the photographer’s studio in North Hollywood. We then piled into cars and caravanned out to Rocky Peak Park located in the Santa Susana Mountains (about 45 minutes north of Los Angeles). Once there we had to hike about a half mile to our destination. Of course, it happened to be 95+ degrees that day! We also spotted snakes hiding under rocks along the way (eeeek!). The models were troopers as we hiked up the steep hills. When we arrived to our shot location, everyone was sweaty, tired and very HOT! We did the best we could to powder everyone and then began our photo shoot. The models were climbing up rocks, crawling through brush, and sitting/standing in rocky bug infested dirt. The sun was relentless which made it difficult for the models to keep their eyes open for very long. There was no changing room of course so the models had to change right out in the open (behind robes and towels of course). Some unsuspecting hikers got more than just a view of the landscape that day…
Our talented crew consisted of makeup artists Kandi McCall and Roger Salas, hairstylist Stephanie Vosper, photographer Mike Quain, choreographer Bri Blonigan and our production manager T Keaton Woods. Here are some behind the scenes shots along with some photos that didn’t make the catalog but are beautiful nonetheless:
- Makeup artist Roger giving Caitlin her tribal look for Painted Desert.
- Each model got a specific design of body paint…
- Makeup done, now ready for hair!
- Hair stylist Stephanie working on Jane’s tribal look.
- Makeup artist Kandi designing Jane’s body paint.
- We had to hike about a half a mile to get to our location. Here is the view from where we stopped to shoot…
- Our talented photographer Mike Quain working hard to capture our stunning photos….
- Our fearless choreographer Bri was on location with us to work with the models.
- Desert Sashes – all five models who braved the “desert”
- Desert tunic and desert tie wraps
- Model Avery showing off her gorgeous extension wearing our desert tie wrap and desert sash.

- Here is another great photo of Macall
After all was said and done, we were happy with the location shoot. We had great models who were willing to get down and dirty along with our photographer who will do anything to make our vision a reality. We are blessed to work with such amazing people who share their gifts with us each year.
Sincerely,
Tracy and Kelly (Triple Threat Dancewear co-owners)
